Motivation: Is It BS?!
Impact Thursday is a brand new weekly addition to the blog where I share something that has impacted my day, week or even my life in a powerful way, in the hopes that it will impact yours too. This week we are talking motivation!
This post kind of ties into Tuesday’s tips for remotivating yourself. I don’t really believe in motivation when it comes to my own fitness journey but I know that it can be an important element at the beginning. I mean, at the beginning of any journey, you do kind of need to feel motivated. But as you progress and get serious about reaching your goals, you’ll realise that motivation is BS. It’s never really there when you need it.
Motivation is something that fades once you’ve been working towards a goal for a while. It may pop up every now and then, but it certainly isn’t going to be there all the time. This is exactly what this interview with Mel Robbins talks about. And I thought it would be the perfect thing to share for those of you who aren’t newbies when it comes to fitness but haven’t yet realised that motivation isn’t something that you can rely on.
This is a long video and it does get a little technical but keep watching. It will be a game changer for you.
Motivation isn’t all it’s cracked up to be
In this video, Mel Robbins explains her theory on motivation and why it’s not something you should ever rely on.
I watched this video a long time ago but it honestly made such an impact in my life that I had to share it. It made me realise that blaming a lack of motivation for me not taking action was just me making excuses. When I realised this, everything changed. I stopped relying on motivation by focusing on the reason I wanted to achieve my goals. I started working harder in the gym. I guess I just realised that achieving my goals is in my hands.
Motivation has its place but it can also hold you back. If you’re constantly relying on it to reach your goals, you’ll probably find that you’re not reaching them very often. Rather than rely on the feeling of being motivated, define in your mind a strong reason behind why you want to reach your goals. Build good habits and refuse to let anything get in the way of you achieving what you want. That’s how you’re going to achieve your goals.
I’d love to hear your thoughts so leave a comment in the comments section and have a beautiful day!
