Exercise and eating well are often heavily emphasized when talking about health. But don’t forget; mindset is important when trying to reach your goals! It’s arguably the most important aspect of reaching your goals.
Mindset is important, but why?
When you are stuck in a negative mindset, you’ll find that it’s so much harder to motivate yourself to put in the work towards reaching your goals. You’ll feel overwhelmed, tired and just a bit ‘off’.
I know from personal experience that it can be really hard to flip this mindset around.
The worst thing you can do when trying to be more positive is well, try to be more positive. It just doesn’t work. The harder you try, the more negative your mindset seems to become.
You need to stop over-thinking it.
Easier said than done, I know, but hear me out.
When I was struggling with my mindset, it was all I could think about. I literally couldn’t stop thinking about it. I just wanted to feel back to my old, positive self again. I knew that mindset is important, and that I wouldn’t be able to reach my goals without changing it. I was desperate.
Then, one day I was talking to someone, and they told me this;
“Stop trying so hard not to have negative thoughts. Negative thoughts are normal. What’s not normal is trying to be positive ALL the time. It’s just not possible.”
Once I heard that, it’s like a lightbulb went off in my head.
Negativity is normal!
Trying so hard to be positive ALL the time was making the problem so much worse. Truth is, everyone has days/weeks/months that aren’t all that great. And while it’s good to try to see a positive side to everything, we need to accept that opposing that positive side, is negativity and that’s okay.
Getting the thoughts out of your head is something thatch also really help. Keeping your emotions and your thoughts bottled allows them to build up and become overwhelming.
I find that it always helps to talk to a friend or someone close about how you’re feeling. Whether it be something little that’s got you down or something major. Alternatively, journalling is also great for freeing the thoughts from your mind.
Live in the moment
Sometimes our negative mindset can come from worrying about the future or obsessing over something that happened in the past. As simple as it sounds, sometimes taking a few deep breaths, stopping and looking at the world surrounding you is a really great first step that will make you feel instantly better.
