What To Do When You Feel Like Giving Up
It’s that time of week again Holistic Fam: Impact Thursday! Where I share something that has impacted my life in the hope that it will impact yours too. This week is all about what to do when you feel like giving up. We’ve all been there. If you haven’t, I’m not so sure you’re really human… Just kidding! But seriously, never beat yourself up when you feel like quitting. It happens.
What you do need to do however is make sure that you don’t quit. That’s easier said than done, but I heard someone say something this week that really opened my eyes to why I’ve personally never quit when I’ve gone through a rough patch, and I really think it can help you too.
When to quit and when not to quit
There are generally two reasons for wanting to quit something. The first is that something happens to discourage you. Whether it’s self-doubt making you think you’re not good enough or an idea failing for the 10th time. Things like this make you wonder why you bother and whether you should just quit while you’re ahead. This is when you really don’t want to give up. And it’s times like this that what I’m sharing with you today will really help.
Another reason for quitting comes about when what you’re doing brings you more displeasure than it does joy. You might dread waking up in the morning and doing whatever it is you do every day. Maybe you feel like your life would be better without it or you just know deep down that it’s not something for you. At times like this, it’s okay to quit. If something isn’t making you happy, there’s no point in doing it. The feeling is very different from the one you get when you momentarily feel like giving up because it’s hard. Hopefully, you know which boat you’re in.
Don’t quit on a bad day
This week’s impactful quote I want to share is this: Never quit on a bad day, only on a good one.
If you quit while you’re having a bad day, week or even month, you’re letting your emotions get the better of you. In other words, you may not even really want to quit. Biologically our brains are wired to look for the easy way out. By quitting when you’re struggling, that’s exactly what you’re doing.
You have no idea what you’re capable of and what you can achieve until you learn to push through those bad times. I’ve wanted to quit multiple things in my life but have always convinced myself to push through. Some of these things were huge struggles to get through at the time, but looking back, I am so happy I never quit.
If you push through all the bad days and struggles coming your way and wait for a good day to roll around to call it quits, that’s when you’ll know whether you really want to quit or not. Quitting on a good day is perfectly acceptable. Everything is going right. You’re breezing through things. You may even forget what it’s like to struggle. If you still feel like quitting you know that the right decision. And that’s perfectly fine.
Always remember why you started. Never quit on a bad day. If you follow these two rules, you’ll never give up on your dreams again!
