“I just feel unmotivated.”
How many times have you used that line? Its normal to feel unmotivated when we are trying to reach our goals. And that’s because motivation doesn’t last. It’s unreliable. It’s never there when we need it.
One of the biggest mistakes you can make when starting your fitness journey is to rely on motivation alone.
Our brains are programmed to take the path of least resistance when it comes to doing things in our day to day lives. That’s why, when the journey towards reaching your goals becomes tough, the motivation you had when you started disappears.
If you want to be successful in the journey towards your goals, you can’t rely on motivation.
You need to set really specific goals with a strong purpose/reason behind them.
This needs to be more than “I want to lose weight.” Your goals need to be more than that. They need to be deeper than that. Think about why you really want to achieve the goals you’ve set for yourself. How will reaching them change your life? What impact will it have?
Practice being consistent and build a strong habit
Believe it or not but it’s not very often that motivation is what gets me to the gym or keeps me on track with eating healthy. Nope! I too used to be the girl who would go the gym for a couple days in a row and then take like two weeks off because I didn’t feel “motivated” to go.
I realised that motivation wasn’t going to do anything for me. I had to build a habit out of this lifestyle. The only way to do that was to be consistent.
No matter how you’re feeling, you just need to get it done. Don’t even give yourself time to ponder over how unmotivated you feel. You just have to force yourself to go. It’s not going to be fun. It’s going to feel uncomfortable. But unfortunately, that’s what being an adult is all about. Not everything can be sunshine and rainbows. I know it’s harsh but it’s true.
Change your mindset!
Going to the gym isn’t a chore. Eating healthy doesn’t mean you’re missing out. Achieving your goals isn’t impossible. If you think any of these things, of course you’re going to feel unmotivated. Why wouldn’t you?!
You need to change your mindset, fast!
I like to think of fitness and health like a game. You try different ways of eating and varieties of training until you finally figure out the right formula and start seeing progress. I have a very in-depth video where I talk about exactly this so click here if you want to check that out.
I also think of food as energy and nutrients for my body. Now, I don’t go over the top and obsess over the food, but when I see something unhealthy I just think on the effect on my body and it’s honestly an easy choice for me. And it’s not as complicated as it seems at all! You just need to start off slow and make simple changes every day.
I know it’s hard…
I get that sometimes changing your mindset isn’t always as simple as it sounds. I’ve been through my own mindset struggles and know how hard it can be to make any kind of lifestyle change and how easy it is to feel unmotivated when your mindset isn’t right.
It took me over a year to create a more positive mindset, but I kept track of everything I did in that time because I knew I didn’t want others to have the same struggles I did. I’ve created a 14-day Mindset Flip mini-course that will guide you through a new step every day until your whole mindset has completely turned around.
Oh, and the best part is that it doesn’t cost a cent! All I need is your name and email, and boom! You’ll receive a mini-lesson straight to your inbox every morning! You can sign up here > Mindset Mini Course
